Being in the healthcare space, I am professionally committed to serving my community. As the Head of Operations at Axis Health, I consult with a number of skilled nursing facilities, such as Cold Spring Hill Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in New York and Phoenix Center Rehabilitation and Pediatrics in New Jersey, to help introduce cutting-edge medical equipment and long-term services and enrichment programs. The goal: to establish better physical and emotional outcomes for patients and their families.

But my dedication to my community extends beyond my professional endeavors. I also support a number of charitable organizations as well, one of which I co-founded in memory of a long-time friend of mine. When asked about my philanthropic work, I always like to share details about these organizations in hopes that others feel compelled to give what they can to help those in need. So, I wanted to compile a short list here.

The one thing that each of these three charities has in common is their dedication to giving back to the Jewish community. Below are the names of these charities and details about their central missions.

1. The Simchas Mayer Fund

This organization is particularly near and dear to my heart because it was the charity I helped found in dedication to my friend, Mayer Weiss. After unexpectedly passing away only a few months after his wedding, Mayer inspired my commitment to helping provide Jewish couples with the essentials they need for their dream weddings.

The Simchas Mayer Fund covers the full cost of the bride and groom’s wardrobe, as well as vendor costs for beautiful packages to the Chosson and Kallah. Supporters of Simchas Mayer can sponsor a Kallah for $1,500, which includes costs for a wedding dress, dresses for Sheva Berachos, and a sheitel, and can also sponsor a Chosson for $1,000, which includes costs for shoes, suits, a hat, accessories, and a weekday wardrobe. Or, consider donating a specific dollar amount to the fund, and we’ll use it accordingly.

2. Colel Chabad

Colel Chabad believes that no person should go hungry, regardless of their age, gender, marital status, ethnicity, or religious observance. The organization was founded in 1788 and has continued its mission of providing material support to Isrealites ever since. They work with 48 municipalities that help them eliminate hunger throughout the country of Israel.

In addition to serving those with insufficient funds, they also support individuals who’ve experienced hardships throughout their lives, including the indigent, widows, Holocaust survivors, and those who are chronically ill.

  1. Hillel International

At the heart of Hillel’s mission is their commitment to enriching the lives of Jewish students so that they can go on to enrich other Jewish people, as well as the rest of the world. They want these students to embrace and celebrate learning, living, pursuing social justice, and connecting with their peers and the global Jewish community in its entirety.

There are a number of initiatives under what they call the ‘Jewish Experience,’ which include student leadership, Jewish learning, Tzadek (social justice), and more. You can learn more about these initiatives here.

From volunteering to making a donation, there are a number of ways people can get involved. To learn how you can support this cause, visit their website and discover how you can give back.

There is nothing more fulfilling than doing whatever you can for your community. I encourage you to look into these organizations, but to research others as well. There are so many opportunities out there to get involved in, in whatever capacity that may look like for you.
